Hello and Happy Tuesday!

We’re taking this time after ski season to do a spring refresh of the store–we’re closed through April 14th to have our floors resurfaced, and we’ve also been working diligently to bring new brands into this store for this summer.

And, we’re also refreshing our product knowledge, doing a few days of product training from brands that we carry. We’re getting a deep dive into Suntegrity, Fatty15, Alpine Gold, Kava Haven, Osea and more this week. So, next time you’re in the store be sure to ask us questions–we’ve got answers!

We’re also working on our spring glow-ups, layering hyaluronic acid (nature’s natural plumper) serums into our skincare routines. If you’re curious about this super-star ingredient, and whether it might be a good add-in to your routine, check out our latest ingredient spotlight on hyaluronic acid here.

Speaking of spring–Easter is late this year, but we still can’t believe it’s sneaking up on us! If you’re looking for some fun Easter basket add-ins like alpaca stuffy keychains, roll-on bracelets, hair clips and more–we’ve got a gift guide for you to check out here

Did you know–we donate $1 of every sale to Save Farmland, our non-profit that focuses on land protection, farmer & rancher support, and community well-being. A lot of work has been put into refining the Save Farmland mission and future direction. Check out where Save Farmland is heading by clicking here. And we thank you for your support!

We’ll be back in-store next week, and are looking forward to seeing you all again then!

March 25, 2025

We’ve been reading a lot lately about spring being a time for blooming, re-envisioning and recreating–whether at home, at work, with friends–you name it! I think spring for me is even more of an opportunity for transformation than the new year. We’re told that we should be starting the new year with fresh eyes and fresh resolutions, but that can feel impossible when you’re trapped inside, and it’s cold and dark out.

Enter: Spring! Sure, in Montana we can absolutely have snowstorms (and we did, last weekend), but we’ve also got warm-ish days when you can open windows, and leave the garage open to reorganize and declutter! If you’re ready to dive head-first into spring cleaning, we’ve got 5 high-impact suggestions over on the blog.

Changing seasons is always a good excuse to declutter, and breathe fresh air into your spaces. Even decluttering and cleaning out something small, like your makeup bag, can make a big impact on freshening up your perspective!

This week I tackled rearranging my 8-year-old son’s room, which meant we took literally everything, including the clothes in in dresser, out of the space, brought clothes, toys and decorations into the living room to go through, opened windows, dusted, vacuumed, and deep-cleaned after a winter of being holed up, and intentionally put everything that still had a space back in. Does this mean that there are still toys with no home in my living room… yes. But we’ll be sneaking those off to the thrift store in no time (IYKYK).

It feels so great to move stale energy out and new energy in, and little by little we’re tackling our homes, our desks, and our yards this spring. We’re also spring cleaning the store! If you haven’t stopped in to Haskill Creek in the last week, now’s the time to do it! We’re moving old inventory out, at 40%, 50%, 60% and 75% off, and for one more day (through 8 PM on March 26) all full priced items are also 10% off.

We’re taking a small break starting Sunday, April 6 to spring clean the store, and get our floor redone. We’ll be back open for business the week of April 14th, with some new product lines and a fresh face for spring! So, be sure to stop in before April 6 to grab all of your supplements, skincare, and other necessities.

Not just our spaces are getting a refresh this spring, we’re also working on incorporating more healthy activities into our daily routines for a refreshed body and positive mental attitude. We’re committing to mindful journaling, weighted-vest walks, and tackling healthy aging head-on. We’re super excited to be carrying Fatty15, a new healthy aging supplement that’s kind of blowing our minds. Interested in learning more? Check it out here.

Know what we’re not excited about? Fear based marketing in the wellness industry. Carrie talks about her experience with the inundation of this type of media, and how you can read between the lines and make informed decisions for yourself here.

Happy Spring Everyone!

3/11/2025

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

Ahh daylight savings time… it seems that every year just as we’ve finally hit our spring stride we get thrust back into mornings in darkness. Anyone else having a hard time adjusting to the time change? You’re not alone. There’s been buzz for the past few years around Daylight Savings Time, and whether we should abolish it–and it’s not just because it’s a mild inconvenience. Studies show that in the week after DST each year there’s an increase in heart attacks, fatal car accidents, mental health issues and more–which is pretty crazy.

The past few days we’ve been doing our best to get natural sunlight first thing (even if that’s when we’re driving kids to school…), and to get outside even for 15 minutes and get connected to nature before starting the day. For Colette that looks like grabbing a to-go coffee at Fleur and then taking her dog on a quick walk around the neighborhood.

We caught up with Fleur owner Whitney Brien, and asked her about her favorite ways to incorporate wellness into her daily life and business. She also shared with us her “can’t live without” products from Haskill Creek. See what they are in this month’s Haskill Essentials.

We’re also making sure to literally take a breath of fresh air for a few minutes every morning by opening up doors and windows. Yes, even when it’s 35 degrees out. And to stay on top of our morning routines by stretching, tidying up and starting the day with a high-protein breakfast.

Yes, the protein hype is real, and we’re here for it. It seems like everywhere you look, there’s someone telling you to incorporate more protein into your diet–whether your goal is jumpstarting your metabolism, gaining muscle and losing fat, or just having more energy throughout the day, we’re told that protein is the answer. So, we’ve been doing our best to get more protein everyday, but it’s not always easy.

Enter: Protein Powders! What was once a genre marketed in large part to athletes, is now becoming an everyday staple for most people–ourselves included. Powders are an easy and effective way to get, in some cases, upwards of 20 grams of protein in a single smoothie.

So, you can imagine our horror when earlier this year a study was being circulated on the internet and social media about heavy metals and contaminants in protein powders. Not only did this trigger a personal flag (we’ve been on the smoothie train for months!) but we were also worried about the implications that this study might have for our customers–we sell protein powder at Haskill Creek, and we’ve done our research, but what if we missed something?!

But, instead of panicking, we dug further into the study and the issue, and wrote our take on the topic. We also compiled a list of companies that provide clear and transparent testing for their protein powder products here–definitely take a look!

Also this week we’re looking at more skincare ingredients. Next up: Phenoxyethanol–a preservative that is used in products to keep them fresh. Intrigued? Check out our post here.

Curious About Ingredients? Let’s Break Them Down Together

If you’re reading this, chances are you care—or are at least curious—about the ingredients in the products you consume, put on your body, or use in your home. Not all ingredients are created equal—some are safe, while others are better avoided. Honestly, before starting Haskill Creek (and even more so this blog), I couldn’t confidently explain why certain ingredients were good or bad. That’s why we’ve pulled together this consolidated list of every ingredient we’ve researched and posted about so far (links below). Our goal is to make sense of it all—what each ingredient is, what it does, and why it’s a friend or foe. If you have an ingredient you’re curious about, drop us an email at hello@haskillcreek—we’d love to dig into it for you!

THE LIST:

Dimethicone

Hyaluronic Acid

Phenoxyethanol

Phthalates

Titanium Dioxide

Whitney

Meet Whitney!

Whitney Brien is the owner and founder of Fleur Bake Shop, which she opened in 2017. Originally from Michigan, she attended Montana State University before pursuing her passion for baking at The French Pastry School in Chicago. After living in various places and refining her craft, she returned to Montana to start her own business with the goal of providing the Flathead community with quality and delicious pastries, cakes, breads and desserts. When she’s not at the Bake Shop, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt, and their dogs whether on the water or the trails, as well as exploring new destinations through travel.

We asked Whitney what her favorite Haskill Essentials are, as well as some other get-to-know-you questions!

1. Fleur Bakeshop is known for its incredible pastries and dedication to quality ingredients. How do you approach sourcing the best ingredients and why is that important to you?

Sourcing quality ingredients has always been a staple of what we do, because you can taste and feel the difference. We use all organic Montana flour in all of our glutinous products, local organic eggs, high quality chocolates, butter, organic produce and more. We source our organic produce from local farms and work closely with Wicked Good Produce. It’s important to me that we utilize what our Valley produces for us to sustain and celebrate our local food systems; and what we can’t source locally, knowing we’re utilizing as much organic and quality ingredients as possible.

2. Running a bakery is both an art and a demanding job. What are your go-to self-care rituals or wellness essentials that help you stay balanced and energized?

Getting enough sleep is always a priority of mine, as well as walking our dogs outside or getting to enjoy a focused yoga class. I really enjoy my daily skincare routine and taking clean supplements to know my body is getting all it needs.

3. Whitefish has such a strong sense of community. How has being part of this town influenced Fleur Bakeshop, and what do you love most about being a small business owner here?

I absolutely love being embedded in our community and getting to share in the joy of what we create. We’re always looking for ways to give back and collaborate with local nonprofits and businesses, and I believe forming those connections and having relationships with our regulars is foundational.

4. If you had to create a Fleur Bakeshop-inspired self-care moment, what would it look like?

I think baking in itself is a form of self-care. That’s how I started baking regularly and fell in love with it back in college, as it was a stress-reliever for me. The mindfulness, attention to detail and creativity it brings are all very therapeutic to me.

5. Favorite Fleur item on the menu??

Always and forever our cannelé! If you’ve never had one it’s a must try. Otherwise I’m always loving our seasonal filled cruffin flavors (croissant + muffin = cruffin).

Here are her Haskill Favorites:

February 25, 2025

Starting to type “December” for the date at the beginning of this blog post is a good indication of how fast this season is going. We’re in the first winter of business in our downtown Whitefish location, and it’s been fun to see what people are looking for and continue scoping out new products for the store. (One of our favorite things about what we get to do is researching and curating wellness products from Bala Bangles to Body Oil to Parasite Detoxes–it’s all in a day’s work!)

One brand we’ve carried for quite some time is Wonder Valley, a company that started out making olive oil, and turned that business into a self-care line that uses olive oil as one of the star ingredients. Their line includes face wash, olive-pit mud masks, shampoo & conditioner and more. Their face wash is one of Colette’s favorites, and we love the fact that their founder, Alison, gives our staff a personal training on their brand and products every year. Learn more about why we love their products, and check out our guide to an “Everything Shower” here.

If you mention “Everything shower” in-store, you can get 15% off any Wonder Valley products. Want double bang for your buck… literally? This Friday, February 28, we’re hosting our first ever “double points” day at the store! Shop anytime on Friday and you’ll earn double points on all of your purchases. We’ll also be serving up complimentary bevvies so grab a friend and come see us!

If you need a refresher on our loyalty program, here’s a quick overview:

We’ve also been working diligently behind the scenes to get the Haskill Creek Wellness Bar & Cafe open this summer. We’ve been testing smoothie recipes, talking to our brand partners about recipe collaborations, and working with a local chef to create our menu, and we’re BEYOND excited to share what we’ve got cooking with you all very soon!

Since the cafe’s not open yet–you’ll have to keep doing your own cooking for now. We’ve got some great cookbooks in the store that have our mouths watering and our wheels turning. If you’re looking for an easy super-food filled treat… we spotted these Kroma Spicy Passion Truffles in their newsletter and had to try them out for ourselves. They’re a breeze to make, are so delicious, and are even kid-approved. Get the recipe here

Finally, we’re onto our third book-club pick! Click here to find out what it is, and we hope you’ll join us at our next gathering!

Until next time…!

February 11, 2025

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

Days are getting longer and brighter, and we’re making the most of winter here in Whitefish! We’ve had some fantastic days on the ski hill, and made some epic sled hills in our own yards. It may be freezing cold, but we’re staying warm with lots of hot cocoa and bone broth, easy homemade soups (Colette’s making this one tonight). We’ve also got our humidifiers dialed way up both day and night–there’s a Canopy Travel humidifier next to me now.

If the sunshine has got you feeling more motivated than January 1 did, you’re not alone. We’re incorporating some of our wellness practices back into our routines, like consistently wearing our red light face masks for 20 minutes, and re-committing to that weekly pilates class. One topic that’s come up over and over again in the last month is Bryan Johnson’s documentary: Don’t Die. If you’re not familiar with Johnson, we’re breaking down his anti-aging philosophy as well as realistic ways that we can incorporate some of these strategies into our own self-care routines. While he’s certainly an extremist (and let’s be honest… we’re not) his quest is pretty interesting, and there’s a lot that we can learn from his routine and self-experimentation. Read on here!

One of the things that’s notably missing from Johnson’s routine is social connection. At Haskill Creek we believe that community & connection are a BIG part of self-care. We were excited to host our second Haskill Creek Book Club gathering last week, and we’re currently deciding on book #3. If you’re interested in joining us, click here.

If you’re looking to learn something new, and you’re free tomorrow evening, you might be interested in joining just for the Galentine’s Flower Arrangement workshop we’re hosting with Forage & Floral. Grab a friend and come enjoy a fun night learning how to craft a beautiful arrangement, enjoy some drinks, and go home with a new centerpiece! Also, our friends at The Farmhouse are also hosting a Galentine’s event, the following evening on February 13–should be super fun, grab your tickets here.

Speaking of Valentine’s… if you’re still looking for a gift for your significant other, bestie, sister, mom, kids… you name it… we’ve got you covered! Whether you’re looking to spice things up after the kids go to sleep, twin with your mini, OR spoil yourself (sign us up!) check out our gift guide here.

Finally, we’re back at it with more ingredient de-mystification this week. This time, we’re tackling dimethicone–a product that’s both loved and debated. Get the lowdown on it’s benefits and potential drawbacks here.

We hope to see you in the store soon!

One of the things we love the most about what we do at Haskill Creek is the curation that goes into all of the products we put in the store. By the time something lands on our shelves, we are already obsessed. It’s truly difficult when someone comes into the store to shop and asks us what our favorite things are… everything in the store is our favorite! All of that being said, we work with some really amazing, fun, and cool brands (it’s like we’re talking about our besties… because they are!!) and we’re planning to do more in-store activations with a variety of them this year. Stay tuned!

Also new for 2025, we're so excited to announce an official partnership with our longterm friends and colleagues over at BusyBee IV. We’ve been big fans and supporters of Lindsey, Megan and the whole team at BusyBee IV from the beginning, and coming soon, we’ll be offering reduced-price quarterly blood draws/health panels to Haskill Creek loyalty members. We’ll also be rolling out special perks at BusyBee IV for the customers in Haskill Creek’s Enthusiast and Guru Loyalty Tiers!

It's… still January, which means we're still executing on new resolutions. In our final resolutions blog we’re talking about getting out there and … doing something!

Stick to your 2025 goals with tips on:

* Reading more… here's what our staff is currently reading

* Learning new skills… some ideas if you're local to the Flathead Valley
